Fine Dining And Street Food For Luxury Travellers In Berlin
27th April, 2017
Fine Dining:
With its incredible history and variety of culture, Berlin has become one of Europe's most popular luxury destinations; this is no better exemplified than by the many truly artisanal fine dining establishments, which offer discerning businesspeople, travelers and holidaymakers all kinds of astonishing opportunities to discover the true gastronomic genius at home in Germany's capital.
Reinstoff:
Visually striking, Reinstoff is found at the historic Edison Höfe, where the first light bulbs were made in Germany in the late 19th century. The buildings were reconstructed accurately in 2003, and as you dine, you experience a window into Germany's industrial heritage. Meaning 'pure matter', Reinstoff is a restaurant which prides itself on light, modern and elegant cuisine, and its menu is stunning. An evening at Reinstoff is inspirational, and a worthy addition to any trip.
Lorenz Adlon:
The price of a meal at the beautiful Lorenz Adlon is well-deserved. Chef Hendrik Otto invites guests on, as he states, 'a journey through the world of flavours, but also back to my early years.' Considering the heritage and calibre of Chef Otto, this presents an opportunity which is hard to top. Dishes at Lorenz Adlon are works of art; a delight to behold, and unforgettable to taste, this menu aims to evoke emotion and memory, and does so with aplomb. This is fine dining of the highest calibre.
Die Quadriga:
For an intimate and memorable fine dining experience, this charming restaurant can be found in the Bauhaus-inspired Brandenburger Hof Hotel. Booking in advance is advisable, as there are only 28 seats - but this results in a personal and magical culinary experience. Serving a menu of classic and nouvelle French dishes, Chef Sebastian Voetz has crafted an inspired selection of stunning plates. The extensive and well-selected wine list, and flawless service ensure an evening at Die Quadriga is one to remember.
Street Food:
Fine dining is a tempting option, but sometimes travellers have a need or desire for something quicker and less formal.Street food in Berlin has undergone somewhat of a gastronomic renaissance in the past few years. Sites which used to house beer halls, or even abandoned warehouses, have been turned into havens for the culinarily inclined, and there is even an annual street food festival. There has never been a better time to experience this kind of food in the city.
Street Food Thursday:
Founded in 2013, this weekly event is the most popular way to experience street food in Berlin for a number of reasons. Up to 5000 people visit the Markthalle Neun, in Kreuzberg, to sample delicacies from all over the world. The food on offer changes weekly, and can be paired with craft beer brewed in the cellar of the market itself, or wine (and many other drinks) from one of the cocktail bars. Perfection.
Bite Club:
A completely original and vibrantly exciting take on the freewheeling ambience of Berlin, Bite Club offer diners a choice of some of the best street food in the city. The most appealing part of a meal with Bite Club is the fact that you will dine on board their vintage boat, which weighs anchor in a variety of spots across the river. The food on offer changes all the time, but it's worth checking their website to see when and where they'll be next, lest you miss out on this incredible experience.
Konnopke's Imbiss:
While street food is undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable and authentic ways to experience the best a city has to offer, if it's something you frequently partake of, there can be some slight repetition of the food on offer - burgers, bagels, noodles and falafel may be delicious, but can become tiresome. Sometimes, you simply want to experience cuisine native to the city, and Konnopke's Imbiss achieves just that; offering visitors the best currywurst in Berlin since the 1920s, and still using its original tomato sauce recipe, this is a truly authentic German experience.
