Creative Nomads
Tim and Petra Zupančič travel the world for work, curating and creating visual content as they globetrot. The husband-and-wife duo have worked with The Hideaways Club for years, capturing many of its villas, apartments, and chalets and experiencing each unique destination. We sat down with Tim and Petra to learn a little more about their work, their favourite Club homes, and where they're flying off to next.
Can you tell us a little more about you both; how did you meet and what do you do for work?
We are from Maribor, Slovenia. We live on the outskirts of town with our four children. I (Tim) studied architecture at the University of Ljubljana and still profoundly love buildings and spaces. We are both visually creative individuals, but our paths crossed through music, not design. Petra attended a music event where my band was playing, and that's where our story began.
Now, we run our business together, focusing on creating captivating photo and video content in the commercial, real estate, and hospitality fields. Our goal is to build strong and positive relationships with our clients. In 2021, we bought a warehouse in Maribor and built a studio that is now available for rent to other visual creators. It all started as a hobby; we were fortunate enough to turn it into a job the whole family can enjoy.
Where is your favourite villa for a summertime escape?
One of our favourite villas for a summer holiday is Masseria L'Olivo. We've visited it twice. It exudes Italian charm with its grand architecture, and we love its unique open-plan living layout and the surrounding 200 olive trees. In the mornings, we enjoy hunting down delicious espresso in the local village, and during the hot days, we cool ourselves off in the pool.
Where is your favourite villa for culture and food?
It has to be Dar Hasnaa in Marrakesh, Morocco. Exploring the hot, chaotic city with its beautiful palaces and crowded markets, trying the local food, and drinking traditional mint tea make us want to return. Dar Hasnaa offers a piece of calm and serenity amidst the fast-paced life outside its gate.
Where is your favourite apartment for a city break?
Berlin is the first place that comes to mind. The apartment in Potsdamer Platz offers a unique position above a beautiful courtyard with nice bars and even a cinema. I remember going downstairs to get popcorn for a movie we watched in bed! The location is the best feature of this apartment.
Are there any other places you have visited that you have fallen in love with?
One of our first experiences with The Hideaways Club was visiting a villa at Lago Maggiore. It was like living the Italian dream! We were amazed by the architecture and the location. The villa has a view of the lake and offers complete privacy.
Podere Le Sensaie, Tuscany, is another highlight… A dirt road leading through woods and fields brings you to a villa with the most charming interiors. The interior design was definitely the highlight of Podere Le Sensaie. Pictures don't do it justice…experiencing the villa in person is worth it 100%.
Where are you travelling to next?
We film a project outside our country at least once a month, and we are currently planning shoots in Prague, Barcelona, and Mallorca. A destination we're really excited to experience is South Africa. Watch this space!
