Milna's Iconic Church: Our Lady of the Annunciation
A Blend of History and Devotion
It was built by Ignacije Macanović from Trogir in 1783 in the Baroque style with the help of other builders from Brac. The church is decorated with a rich facade and stone stairs that lead to the church. The high stone belfry is older than the church itself and was built by Trifun Bokanić in the 16th century. At the top of the upper floor, on the semicircular arches of the belfry, there are 8 stone heads - maskerons.
The beauty of the parish church is that it was built as a whole. It was not expanded, upgraded or restored, that is why it is proportional, harmonious and beautiful. As part of this church, there is also a sacristy, the original church of St. Mary's, which the designer beautifully integrated into the parish church, which was built in 1519. The painting of the Annunciation with the young Gabriel and the humble figure of Mary is one of the most beautiful altarpieces on Brač, and belongs to the Venetian painter G. Diziani from the first half of the 18th century. century.
