Cap de Formentor: Explore Mallorca’s Windswept Cliffs
Where Majestic Cliffs Meet the Mediterranean
On the northern tip of Mallorca is the Cap de Formentor, where the top end of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range meets the Mediterranean. Cap de Formentor literally means 'end of Formentor' - the name of the 20-kilometre peninsula, northeast of the port of Pollença.
Note that car access to the Formentor peninsula is restricted during the summer months (1st of June to 30th of September), being limited to just residents, public transport, specially authorised and emergency vehicles, as well as cyclists.
A windswept lighthouse stands on this promontory and, although it's not open to visitors, you can walk around its rocky surroundings, looking out to the cliffs where Eleonora's falcons nest in the winter. You can also spot seabirds in their thousands during migration periods.
