Morzine is the gateway to the enormous Portes du Soleil ski area which covers 12 resorts in France and Switzerland, with a huge variety of skiing to suit all levels of ability in the region that has 650km of pistes. Morzine is relatively sheltered and rests in the valley; so to access the ski area you can ride one of the two main cable cars either up to Avoriaz or towards Les Gets. The terrain that can we found in the higher mountains is extraordinary, with a wide array of easy cruising blues and reds for intermediate skiers as well as some brilliant facilities and areas for the more advanced skiers and snowboarders. The nearest lifts to Chalet Lumière are the Super Morzine, which takes you up into Avoriaz and Le Pleney which accesses the Morzine ski area, and also connects easily to Les Gets. This is more suited to beginners or those who wish to find their "ski legs" during their first day. This ski area is also open at night on Thursday evenings. With easy access to the lifts in Ardent, you can ski to the famous snow-covered village of Les Linderets, which offers a cosy gastronomic stop over on the slopes. Portes du Soleil Area has 197 ski lifts covering 280 marked ski runs covering 12 resorts connected by 650km of marked ski runs. Morzine - Les Gets has 49 ski lifts covering 64 marked ski runs suitable for beginners and children. Avoriaz Ski Pass covers 36 ski lifts with 49 marked ski runs.
