The local area

Koh Samui is a small island off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus, in the Gulf of Thailand. At its core is dense tropical jungle with dramatic waterfalls and secret lagoons, while its palm-fringed coast is wrapped in a ribbon of pristine white sand. A coral reef rich in marine life provides a haven for swimming; underwater rock formations and coral gardens are perfect for diving.

Secluded from the rest of the island on its west coast and enclosed by coconut plantations, our luxury holiday villa can be found in the area of Lipa Noi. Koh Samui has been attracting tourists longer than almost any other Thai island and its appeal endures in its surprisingly preserved tropical beauty; the perfect place to enjoy a second home.

The History of Koh Samui

Thought to have been first inhabited by fisherman from the Malay peninsula and traders from southern China, (who perhaps originated the name "samui" from their word for safe haven, "saboey"), for a long time Koh Samui was mysterious and cut off from the mainland.

The island was little known and remained so despite a boat service heading there from the mid 1800s, but when the isolated community asked for help from the mainland to improve its infrastructure in the 1960s it began to open up. By the 1970s, word was spreading amongst the hippie backpacking community about a unspoilt tropical island and they arrived to stay, without electricity, in huts on the beach - sparking the tourism that defines the island today.

For more active pursuits, this location makes the rest of Koh Samui very accessible. You can rent a car or motorbike and drive the 50km round-island road, or explore the islands of the Ang Thong National Marine Park. To really dive into the spirit of Koh Samui, you can head to Chaweng for its stylish nightclubs and bars, visit The Wat Khunaram to see an active Buddhist temple (and mummified monk), leave an offering at a spirit house or hire a luxury catamaran.

Thai Cuisine

Thai cuisine has become a worldwide favourite, and with its brightness, complexity and sheer vibrancy of flavour it's no wonder. While they may not necessarily be authentic to Koh Samui, you can find Thai classics here at their absolute best, with nearly every restaurant serving pad thai, papaya salad, and red, green and yellow curries; but this isn't to say there isn't culinary diversity. From street vendors to high-end restaurants, during your stay in our Koh Samui luxury villa you'll find a huge array of delicious food, with various cultural influences evident everywhere - as well as the best coconuts in Thailand.
