Paris is divided into 20 districts knows as Arrondissements, beginning with the 1st arrondissement at the city centre and spiralling out - in clockwise fashion - to the 20th and final district in the northeast.

The 4th Arrondissement (including the Beaubourg, Marais and Île St-Louis neighbourhoods) is a favourite amongst tourists and locals for a very good reason. Not only does it house some of the city's most important and beloved historical sites, including Notre Dame Cathedral and the elegant Place des Vosges, but it is also the heartbeat of contemporary Paris. Harbouring several bustling and stylish neighbourhoods, this area attracts artists, designers, trendy shopkeepers and students alike. The 4th Arrondissement is considered a premium destination within Paris and we are certain you will enjoy the scenic surroundings, and the ability to access the heart of Paris by foot.

Two Thousand Years of High Culture

Paris is an ancient city and its rich history has transformed the French capital into the architecturally ornate wonder we see today. Its prosperity and grandeur is on display in sights such as the world famous Notre Dame, La Conciergerie, the Louvre and of course the Eiffel Tower.

During the Enlightenment of the 1700's, Paris became known as The City of Light and it's this cultural period that people most often associate with the city. The Moulin Rouge is synonymous with Toulouse-Lautrec, you can tour Hemingway's Parisian haunts, and with artists from Renoir to Dali having lived and worked in the city, there's a huge amount of fascinating creative history to explore.

The city is also a sightseer's dream. You can stroll down the Champs-Elysees, wonder at the Arc de Triomphe, view the city from the top of the Eiffel Tower, walk up the steps of the Sacre Ceur and picnic in the Tuileries Gardens, and still barely have scratched the surface of the essential stops in the city.

Located in the 4th Arrondissement in the centre of Paris, Île Saint-Louis, first known as the Île Notre-Dame, is eleven hectares in size with a population of 4,453. It is one of two natural islands in the river Seine (the other being Île de la Cité, where Notre-Dame de Paris is located). Île Saint-Louis is connected to the rest of Paris by four bridges to both banks of the river and to the Île de la Cité by the Pont Saint-Louis. Île SaintLouis has many beautiful streets full of impressive buildings of high architectural value (some dating back 4 centuries) creating the atmosphere of a French village. Other attractions include the picturesque Place des Vosges and the Musée Carnavelet, dedicated to the history of Paris.

It's universally acknowledged that the French have elevated food to an exceptional art. Your apartment is minutes away from Berthillon, serving the best ice cream in Paris, whereas Michelin-starred Le Sergent Recruteur attracts fashionable Parisians and gastronomy enthusiasts from around the world to dine on the island of Ile Saint Louis. Beyond these incomparable experiences, Paris has a wealth of everyday joys to be found in the bakeries, patisseries and wine retailers throughout the city.

Shopping & Luxury Lifestyle

Avenue Montaigne and the Champs-Elysées are lined with designer boutiques, and trendy chain stores.

Avenue Montaigne is one of the most prestigious streets in all of Paris. Numerous luxury designers have established boutiques on this wide avenue, not far from the Champs Elysées. From Dior to Chanel to Céline, Avenue Montaigne is the epitome of luxury shopping streets in Paris.

The streets of St-Germain-des-Prés have harboured many struggling artists and writers. From Picasso to Prévert, Hemingway to Cocteau, many of the world's leading intellectuals have flocked here. Two of the best places to visit for a dose of literary history are Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots. Bookworms can continue their literary tour by visiting local book shops like stylish Assouline and L'Ecume des Pages, which crams over 40,000 titles onto its packed shelves.

Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, the first department store in the world, opened in 1852 in Paris at the instigation of Aristide Boucicaut and his wife Marguerite. Women's, men's and children's fashion, accessories, tableware and design, but also cultural exhibitions, furniture collections and contemporary works of art fill the space. If you're a foodie or searching for gourmet goods to take home, make sure to whirl through the enormous food hall there, too.

If you're feeling adventurous, why not dig around at a Paris Flea Market? Finds could include vintage Channel bags, modern jewellery or old French prints and paintings.
