Some of the Best Wine In The World

Steenberg is one of the oldest wine farms in the Cape Peninsula, having been founded in 1682 by German immigrant Catherina Ustings Ras. She was leased the land by then Governor of the Cape of Good Hope Simon van der Stel and settled there with her fifth husband. It changed hands and grew under the supervision of Christina Diemer - a widower who took over the farm when her husband died - who had planted 30,000 vines by 1735. Remaining a wine estate until 1990, it then developed with the addition of a hotel and golf course, and the old farm homestead was declared a national monument in 1983.

The Steenberg winery will provide the most evocative tastes of this beautiful part of the world. The estate mainly produces white varieties, but days could be spent touring the various vineyards of South Africa's Western Cape, collecting your favourite bottles to take back home. Our South African luxury villa also has the advantage of being the location of wonderful fine dining restaurants, where the food and service is exceptional.
