The home
This rustic five-bedroom farmhouse, which is over 150 years old, features barrel-vaulted ceilings, terracotta floors and verdant-valley views. It has been recently renovated by the talented designer, Joanna Carey, who struck the delicate balance between retaining the traditional Italian charm, and a modern, clean aesthetic. The aim was to enhance the authentic elements of the home and add a fresh breath of life to its décor.
The landscaped garden, with its own olive grove, features a pool, gazebo and seating area, with panoramic views of the sweeping landscapes surrounding it.
The area
While the clearest historical influence of Lajatico is its Lombard heritage, it's thought that the history of the village goes back far further than that. Archaeological discoveries such as urns and terracotta vases place the origins of Lajatico in the Etruscan Empire, before it became a Roman settlement. First mentioned in a written document in 891, Lajatico was owned by the powerful Pannocchieschi family before it was given to the Bishop of Volterra in 1161. More recently, it is renowned as the birthplace of Andrea Bocelli.
The beach at Cecina and the stunning towns of Pisa and Florence are within easy reach, so whether you wish to while away a day by the pool or explore some of the most revered cities in the world, you can do so from the comfort of your home - and our dedicated concierge team will help take care of the details.
