Whale watching in Steenberg
The Cape Overberg coastline has some great vantage points for a spot of whale-watching and the Walker Bay area which, from Gansbaai to Hermanus, is a whale sanctuary. Hermanus arguably offers the best spot for whale-watching from land as not only does it have the world's only 'whale crier', it also has a 14km cliff walk that offers a bird's eye view of the 100 or so Southern Right Whales that migrate annually to this area. They often come to within five or ten metres of the coast so you are bound to get a good view. Hermanus celebrates the arrival of these beautiful giants of the sea by holding an annual Whale Festival in late September, which is packed with events and activities.
