Navigate Stellenbosch Wine Route

Pinotage, Cabernet, and More

The Stellenbosch wine route is located just 45 minutes from Cape Town, and is the oldest in South Africa, representing over 300 wineries. Because of this, to make the region easier to navigate, it is divided into sub-routes - Bottelary Hills, Helderberg, Devon Valley Vintners and Simonsberg-Stellenbosch. Most of the wineries in Stellenbosch are small operations, and focus on red wines. For example, Botterlary Hills lies on the slopes of the Bottelary Mountain range, and because most of its vineyards face north, it produces excellent red wines, in particular, Pinotage. Simonsberg-Stellenbosch is known as 'Cabernet country', although these wineries have also produced some rather good white and sparkling wines too.
